I know the feeling. It’s been a long day at work, and you’ve gone to bed early to watch some TV. When you are ready to go to sleep you hit the standby button on the remote. Something we have been told not to do now to help the environment. Well there is something green, literally, that can help those of us that are lazy. It’s called the Standby Buster.
A report by Which? Magazine in 2006 stated that leaving on a TV, digital receiver, Hi-Fi and DVD in stand by mode could cost £40 a year and be attributed to 245kg of carbon dioxide emissions. The Standby Buster is basically an electrical socket which plugs into your existing socket and can be switched off with a remote control, and so by switching off your appliances that are plugged into it. At a cost of about £15 for a starter pack this means you would make your money back very quickly.
Head of Advice at the Energy Saving Trust, Karen Lawrence said,
“We spend about 7 per cent of our electricity bills on stand by power at the moment and this is set to rise, by 2020 about 45 per cent of our electricity bills will be spent on running electronic products.”
So these gadgets will benefit everyone.
